Yet its flowering glory, it seems to me, is in the reptile. This is the basic thing that human civ is trying to hide from itself. This deep driving force, perhaps the real thing that the pessimist, Arthur Schopehauer, spoke of as "the will to live," is, indeed, our actual human "problem." It is a true wonder that this bunch of land monsters that we are has not yet whacked itself. And our taking attitude takes so many forms. I believe Al Gore has a new documentary coming out: "An Inconvenient Truth." While it addresses global warming, this basic matter of how we treat each other in ethical matters will never be solved.
